So how much did all this cost to build? Well, I saved all the receipts for everything I bought related to this project.

“The attitude of society towards these phases lead to a withholding or granting of support. The lack of support would then obviously make it difficult to deal with the transition period of each phase. The individual is then forced to build only internal resources,” she said.

Fears told me he had spent most of the past year celebrating the alt-right’s covert domination of the news cycle. He seemed thrilled that Donald Trump tweeted about a so-called migrant caravan, which, like the supposed “white genocide” in South Africa, was mostly fiction. Yet it was effectively promoted by alt-right websites like The Daily Stormer and Breitbart, and now right-wing celebrities like Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson were talking about it. “This idea that the alt-right is falling apart and is going to go away, it’s not true,” he says. “The alt-right formulates all these ideas,” he went on. “What Tucker Carlson talks about, we talked about a year ago.”

The first photo below shows the elec­tronics setup. The battery, inverter, me­ter, and prototype charge controller are all sitting on a plywood board on top of a blue plastic tub. I plug a long exten­sion cord into the inverter and run pow­er back to my campsite. Once the wind starts blowing, the turbine head snaps around into it and begins spinning up. It spins up quickly until the output volt­age exceeds the battery voltage plus the blocking diode drop (around 13.2 volts, depending on the state of the bat­tery charge). It is really running without a load until that point. Once that voltage is exceeded, the turbine suddenly has a load as it begins dumping power into the battery. Once under load, the RPMs only slightly increase as the wind speed in­creases. More wind means more current into the battery which means more load on the generator. So the system is pretty much self-governing. I saw no signs of over-revving. Of course, in storm-force winds, all bets are off. Switching the controller to dump power into the dum­my load did a good job of braking the turbine and slowing it way down even in stronger gusts. Actually shorting the turbine output is an even better brake. It brings the turbine to a halt even in strong winds. Shorting the output is how I made the turbine safe to raise and lower, so I wouldn’t get sliced and diced by the spinning blades. Warning though, the whole head assembly can still swing around and crack you hard on the nog­gin if the wind changes direction while you are working on these things. So be careful out there.

Do our students understand the advantages to consciously putting money into their savings for their futures? Are they discovering how to use a spreadsheet to see their expenditures and budget their incoming cash? Do they understand money market accounts and the stock market? In school, is anyone showing children the importance of financial literacy: debt-to-income ratios, types of mortgage rates, keeping track of monthly payments, the importance of saving for retirement, how to balance a checkbook?

Connecting current events to our study of literature and our independent-reading books makes the point that “theme” is not some hidden picture or message in invisible ink within a text. Rather, themes in literature extend beyond the text and apply to real-life situations. We can find a theme from “Romeo and Juliet” that surfaces on the New York Times home page or in an Op-Ed.

With a little more perspective, I’d even enjoyed All Star Wrestling’s show more than I thought I would. There was plenty of drama, including some bona fide giants stomping their way to the ring, and a “heel-turn,” where one of the good guys went to the dark side. There were a couple of matches featuring some former national wrestling stars, and I’d seen my first match with female wrestlers.
